Celebrating Our Student Nutrition Program!

For 13 years, the student nutrition program at James Strath Public School has welcomed ALL students to enjoy nourishing food, to help them perform their best. Students are hungry for all sorts of reasons. Free, nutritious food at school builds social connections, a sense of community, and fuels a successful day of learning.

Our grab & go program serves local vegetables and fruit when possible, whole grains and protein foods daily, and is run by dedicated volunteers, staff, and students.

We are currently looking for volunteers. 

Thirty years ago, the first nutrition programs began in 2 local schools. Thanks to our caring and generous community, 96% of schools in Peterborough and County now offer free, nourishing food at school. Where programs exist, teachers report better behaviour, less missed school, and improved academic scores.

An enormous thank-you to our dedicated volunteers and staff who make it happen!

Food Drive

Dear Parents and Guardians:
          Our James Strath community has heart! Throughout the years, we have always made it a
priority to help support our community. This year our support is more important than ever.
         

           This year, we will be organizing a Food Drive for Kawartha Food Share . We are asking each
student,that is able, to donate a non-perishable food item between November 14th-November
22nd . We have contacted Kawartha Food Share and they have shared with us a list of items they
are in desperate need of. Each class has been given an item suggestion to contribute to their class’
food drive box- eg. Team Palmer- Boxed Mac and Cheese.

            This is completely voluntary. If you are unable to bring in your suggested class item, any
non-perishable food item will be accepted and greatly appreciated.
